President instructs new ministers to assume duties before Monday, cabinet scheduled to meet on 19th

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has instructed the new government’s cabinet and state ministers who were sworn in on Wednesday (12) to assume their duties before next Monday (17).

Accordingly, a number of cabinet ministers are due to assume duties today.

Ministers Prasanna Ranatunga, Bandula Gunawardena, Keheliya Rambukwella, Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Prof G.L. Peiris, Johnston Fernando, Vasudeva Nanayakkara and Nimal Siripala de Silva will assume duties in their respective ministries.

State Ministers D.V. Chanaka, Sudarshana Fernandopulle, Nalaka Godahewa and Piyal Nishantha are also scheduled to assume duties today.

The first cabinet meeting of the new government is scheduled to be held on Wednesday 19th at the Presidential Secretariat and will be chaired by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, according to government sources.

The 25 Cabinet of Ministers and 39 State Ministers of the new Government led by Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) were sworn in before President Gotabaya Rajapaksa Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the inaugural session of the 9th Parliament is scheduled to commence on the 20th at 10.00 am under the patronage of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
