Postal ballot packets to the post for delivery from today

The postal ballots for the forthcoming parliamentary election 2020 will be sent to the Postal Department from today (30) for delivery, the Election Commission said.

Issuing of postal ballots and handing them over to the post will be done on the 30th of June 2020, 01st and 2nd of July 2020. These postal ballot papers will be handed over to the District Returning Officers by the Postal Department.

Accordingly, marking of postal ballots will take place at public institutions (except for District Secretariats, Election Offices, Police Stations, Security Forces Camps, Department of Civil Security Force and in the health sector) on 14th and 15th July.

Postal voters in the District Secretariats, Election Offices, Police Stations, Security Forces Camps, Department of Civil Security Force, and in the health sector will mark their postal ballots on the 16th of July 2020 and until 12.00 noon on the 17 of July 2020.

Postal voters who will fail to mark their postal ballots will be allowed to mark the postal ballots on 20th and 21st July 2020 at the District Secretariat or at the Election Office in the district where their service station is located.

For the parliamentary elections scheduled for 05th August, 753,037 applications have been received for postal voting and 705,085 state workers are eligible to cast their postal votes while 47,430 applications have been rejected.
