Zaira Wasim, the breakout star of superstar Aamir Khan’s blockbuster biographical film, Dangal (2016), surprised everyone when, on Sunday, June 30, she announced her exit from showbiz through a lengthy social media post. The actress wrote on her social media account that life in films has ‘threatened’ her relationship with her Islamic religion.

Last seen in Aamir Khan Productions’ Secret Superstar (2017), a film which won her accolades from various corners, Zaira had completed her much-awaited film, The Sky Is Pink, weeks before stepping away from the limelight. However, news has it that the 18-year-old is not likely to promote the movie ahead of its October release. The Sky Is Pink also features global icon Priyanka Chopra and Farhan Akhtar in lead roles.

A source close to the development reveals to a popular Indian tabloid that Zaira has requested the makers of the film to excuse her from the promotional activities. “With the film eyeing an October 11 release, the makers were planning to kick-off the promotions by August-end. It was evident from Zaira’s Facebook post on Sunday that she has decided to severe her ties from films. In keeping with her decision, she has requested the makers to excuse her from the promotional activities,” informs the source.

The Sky Is Pink is a Shonali Bose directorial. The film is based on the life of motivational speaker Aisha Chaudhary, who was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis. However, her illness could not break her and she went on to write a book called My Little Epiphanies, which was published one day before her death at the age of 15. Zaira Wasim plays Aisha in the movie.
