THE United States announced on Monday (21) an allocation of 16 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines for Asian countries including Sri Lanka.

Approximately 16 million vaccines will be distributed among India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Maldives, Bhutan, Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Laos, Papua New Guinea, Taiwan, Cambodia, and the Pacific Islands.

On Monday, the US announced the distribution list for 55 million of the 80 million doses of America’s own vaccine supply.

President Joe Biden has pledged to allocate these doses by the end of June in the hope of tackling the pandemic.

The Sri Lankan embassy in the US said the specific vaccines and the timeline of delivery were still not known, the Daily Mirror reported.

The White House said the specific vaccines and amounts will be determined and shared as the administration works through the logistical, regulatory and other parameters particular to each region and country.
