The Hrithik Roshan starrer Super 30 (2019) is unstoppable at the domestic box-office. Released on 12th July, 2019, the film is currently running in its fourth week, drawing audiences from every section of the society. After entering the coveted ₹ 100 crore club in ten days, Super 30 is now gearing up to zoom past the ₹150 crore mark, which the film is expected to breach soon.
In addition to all love and appreciation coming its way, Super 30 has also achieved a rare feat. Hrithik Roshan’s film has become the first Bollywood movie to get tax-free status in eight states across the country. Bihar was the first Indian state which exempted the film from tax, followed by Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, and more recently, Haryana. It is indeed a great feat for a movie which was never promoted as a mass-centric film.
For the uninitiated, Super 30 is based on the inspirational life of renowned mathematician Anand Kumar. He is known for his Super 30 program which he started in Patna, Bihar in 2002. The Super 30 program coaches underprivileged, economically backward students for IIT-JEE, the entrance examination for the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
The film has not only turned out to be popular with cinegoers but has also become a source of inspiration for many. Inspired from Anand Kumar’s Super 30 program, the Maharashtra government has decided to set up a new initiative, Super 50, which will provide special coaching for 50 tribal students and prepare them for JEE and NEET entrance examinations.
Produced by Nadiadwala Entertainment, Reliance Entertainment and Phantom Films, Super 30 is directed by Vikas Bahl. The film also stars Mrunal Thakur and Nandish Sandhu in important roles.
