Sri Lankan president on a pilgrimage to Tirumala Temple in India

Maithripala Sirisena has asked defence secretary Hemasiri Fernando and Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara to resign over their failure to prevent the blasts

Sri Lankan president Maithripala Sirisena has arrived in Tirumala on a private visit on Tuesday (16) to offer prayers at the hill shrine of Lord Venkateswara Swamy.

President Sirisena, accompanied by his wife Jayanthi Pushpa Kumari and other family members and Sri Lankan officials landed at Renigunta airport, 20 km from Tirumala, at noon, Press Trust of India reported.

Amid tight security, he reached the hills by road, the official told PTI.

President Sirisena was accorded a warm welcome by Tirumala-Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Executive Officer Anil Kumar Singhal, Tirumala Joint Executive Officer KS Sreenivasa Raju on his arrival at Sri Padmavathi Rest House in Tirumala.

The president would take part in the ‘Suprabhatha’ ritual and offer prayers to the presiding deity of Lord Venkateswara in the early hours Wednesday (17), the official added.
