My Pod

My playlist with Dixi

By: LekshmiSajeev

American singer Dixi released her song Nachle last month and has more tracks on the way in diverse genres.

The New York-based singer, songwriter and musician being versatile can be connected to her various influences.

This was apparent when Dixi, who is also a successful doctor, selected 10 songs she loves.

Tum Hi Ho by Arijit Singh: This song gets me in my feelings every time. The melody, lyrics, Arijit’s voice and everything. A brilliant composition!

Eli Re Eli by Kavita Krishnamurthy: I used to love to dance and sing along to this song with my childhood best friend. It brings back happy memories and lets me relive my youth a little.

Need Nobody by Dixi: This track is my baby. My first written product, original song and jumpstart to my music career on another level. I wanted it to be such an empowering song and now when I hear it I do feel empowered and take pride in that as well.

I Like It by Cardi B: This song makes me feel like a bad B when I hear it. It gives me this sudden boost of confidence and fire, not to mention a great song to bust out moves to at the club. It also has that Spanish flair, which I love.

Mi Gente by J Balvin: Every time this song comes on when I’m out, it immediately makes me get up and start dancing. I really love the Spanish fusion stuff, if you haven’t noticed. I believe it was after this song I tried to see if I could write-sing in Spanish, after which my song Fuego with Dj Twinbeatz came about.

Deewani Mastani by Shreya Ghoshal: My favourite track to sing of all time. I’ve performed this numerous times. It’s one of those songs that I immediately fell in love with when I first heard it and never got sick of. Shreya plus Deepika (Padukone), equals love. It is also a great dance song. Sanjay Leela Bhansali killed it with this entire Bajirao Mastani album.

Lag Jaa Gale by Lata Mangeshkar: Taking it back to the classics. One of my favourite and most performed wedding songs, and probably one of the most difficult to sing. But that’s why I like it, because it’s challenging and also one of those songs I can be so versatile with singing-wise. It also takes me back to the world of music prior to my existence and lets me recognise Lata for the legend that she was.

Tujh Mein Rab Dikha Hai by Shreya Ghoshal: Another beautiful song that gets me in my feelings and I love singing it. Every time I used to sing this song people would say, ‘You sound just like Shreya!’

Forever by Chris Brown: This song has such a happy, lively, dance, no-worries vibe. I imagined dancing to it with the love of my life on the dance floor at our wedding reception, (laughs). The fantasy has not come true yet. I also love mostly anything by Chris Brown.

Tu Cheez Badi by Udit Narayan: One of the first songs I was ever exposed to that I sang and danced along with as a toddler. So this classic will always have my heart!
