Importing grains halted, Now cultivate more – President tells farmers in Anuradhapura

As the import of grains has been halted, the farmers have been given the opportunity to provide grains for a higher price on both local and foreign market, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa said, thereby encouraging the farmers to grow more corn, black gram, mung bean, kaupi and finger millet.

The President made this observation during his tour to Anuradhapura district for the victory of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) candidates who are set to contest the 2020 General Election.

Speaking with the farmers on his way, the President has exchanged views on the issues faced by the farmers community. The President has been told that the crops can be cultivated without hindrance had fertiliser and water been provided properly. The President has pointed them out the importance of the use of organic fertiliser.

Meanwhile, the President has instructed the officials to solve the issues faced by acting principals of schools, during a query with the principals to observe the progress of the education of the children living in the areas.

The President has also paid attention to the measures taken in controlling kidney diseases, the storage problems faced by the farmers, and the crises of Elephant-Human conflict and farmer’s debt to which the people of Medawachchiya area are embedded, during his journey, according to the President’s Media Unit.

Meanwhile, the President has addressed on stage in a move to encourage the SLPP candidates contesting the Polls in the district.
