Talented actor Angad Hasija has been delighting TV audiences ever since his winning turn on hit drama serial Sapna Babul Ka…Bidaai.
Having grown up watching shows such as Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, he was most recently seen playing the lead role in web series Ishq Aaj Kal.
Eastern Eye caught up with the popular small-screen star to talk all things television.
How did you feel when you appeared on TV for the first time?
I was 16-17 years old when I did my first project, which was a music video. When it was released, I was very happy to see it as I had never imagined seeing myself on television.
Tell us about your latest show?
It is a web series called Ishq Aaj Kal on Zee5. The first two seasons are online. It is a Muslim story, which is a spin-off of Ishq Subhanallah. I play Arshad Ali Khan, who is a big businessman and has his own hotel industry. He is very strict about his traditions and follows all his rituals. I have taken help from one of my Muslim friends and also learned about how to do namaz. I also learned some Urdu words from him and watched some Muslim shows, so that I can understand and get a flow to play my character.
What’s your dream role?
I am very lucky to play different characters, which I had thought of. The character I have played in Ishq Aaj Kal is very different and I wanted to do a Muslim role. Let’s see what happens next as whichever roles I wanted, I always got.
Tell us, how do you cope with a demanding work schedule?
The web is very different from television and I don’t face any problems as the work is done at a very easy pace, which is manageable.
What have you binge-watched recently?
I do not have a lot of time as I am busy with shoots, but I have recently watched the last season of Game Of Thrones.
Who is your TV hero?
Dheeraj Dhoopar and I have been friends for the last 10 years. He is like my brother, family and is really doing well, so he is my TV hero.
What inspires you?
Before I come to my shoot I keep the mindset that whatever I do, I should give my hundred per cent and do it with all my heart. If you are motivated and focused from within then it gives you the energy and power to perform your work.
Why do you love being an actor?
For me, acting is a very different journey. I feel that being an actor you grow with every character. You get to do different roles from which you will learn a lot. Also, you get to meet the senior actors from whom you can learn a lot. When you are on the set, you connect with different people and their experiences. This will help you grow mentally and you also grow as an actor.
