Escaped COVID-19 infected inmate of Kandakadu center nabbed

The COVID-19 infected patient who escaped from the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) this morning has been apprehended by the Army. He was apprehended near the Colombo National Hospital, Army Commander Lt. General Shavendra Silva said.

Sri Lanka Police today sought public help to find a COVID-19 patient who had escaped this morning from the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) in Mulleriyawa while receiving treatment.

Acting Inspector General of Police CD Wickramaratne said the parents has escaped from the hospital at around 2.30 am today (24),

It has been revealed that the fugitive is a 42 year old man with a limp in the left leg.

Police further said that if anyone sees him, instead of catching him, they should immediately call the police on the given telephone numbers.

The patient is severely addicted to drugs and was receiving treatment at the Kandakadu Rehabilitation Center when he got infected with COVID-19 and he was admitted to the IDH hospital on the 15th.

According to hospital sources, the man who was receiving treatment in Ward 4 had jumped out of a window in the wall to the ground with the aid of a pipe. The sources further said that a hospital employee noticed that the patient was not in the bed and informed the authorities.

As soon as the patient escaped, about 100 STF and police officers arrived and started a full search of the area around the hospital from around 3 in the morning.

Accordingly, the police requested the public to call 119 hotline or 0718-591017, 0718-592290 and 0718-591864 immediately if they have any information about him.
