After working with Ranveer Singh on such blockbusters as Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela (2013), Bajirao Mastani (2015) and Padmaavat (2018), Deepika Padukone will now share the screen space with the star in the upcoming sports drama 83. This will be the first time when Ranveer and Deepika are seen together in a film after their grand wedding in 2018.

As most of us know by now that 83 is a biographical film which chronicles the unprecedented victory of Indian cricket team against West Indies in the 1983 World Cup tournament. Ranveer Singh plays legendary cricketer Kapil Dev in the movie, who led the men in blue to lift the trophy. It was previously confirmed that Deepika Padukone will essay the role of Romi Dev, the wife of Kapil Dev, in the movie.

Talking about playing Romi Dev in 83, Deepika Padukone recently told an Indian daily that the role she plays in the film might be lighter from the ones she has essayed over the past few years, but the character does go through hardships while India journey through the World Cup tournament and lift the cup.

“Honestly speaking, I have always enjoyed playing characters that take a lot out of me, emotionally. Even in 83, there are extreme highs and lows that Romi also goes through in the journey towards Indian cricket team creating history by winning the world cup. But the film also — albeit briefly — explores lighter moments between Romi and her husband. So, in that sense, you can say that it has been (a) lighter (part) emotionally.”
