289 Sri Lankans stranded in African countries return to island

A SriLankan Airlines flight carrying 289 Sri Lankans, who were working in Africa and unable to return to the country when the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, arrived at the Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport from Tanzania this morning.

A large number of these passengers were employed in the hotel industry in the African continent countries of Madagascar, Mozambique, Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania.

The SriLankan Airlines flight UL-1710, from Dar es Salaam International Airport in Tanzania, arrived at the Katunayake airport at 5.00 am today.

Upon arrival at the Bandaranaike International Airport, the passengers and the crew of the flights were subjected to PCR tests.

The passengers were accommodated at several hotels near the airport until the results of the PCR tests are known.
